Harvard Referencing
With so many options and choices to choose from, referencing
the text and statements accurately is a struggling process. The academic researchers,
despite including the right and related information, often battle with the
implementation of the correct referencing style. Harvard referencing is one of
the most used referencing styles, and most of the supervisors and the instructors
prefer using this style of referencing. However, although it is the most used
and common form of the referencing style, the researchers still struggle to
cite and reference the sources of the statement correctly in the dissertation.
In the Harvard Referencing, there are two kinds of
citations, the in-text citations which are included in the main body of the
dissertation, another referencing style is found at the bottom of the whole desertion
in the form of a list for all the sources that are mentioned in the study.
While there are many other variations of institutions and
some different styles, the Harvard styles generally follow the format that is
mentioned below. The sources that are typically used for Harvard Referencing
are Books, Articles, Online sources, Visual Mediums and the other sources as
well.
While presenting the reference list, the researcher must
focus on listing all the reference in the alphabetical order starting each text
with the surname of the author. There will be multiple citations within your dissertation,
mainly in your Literature review section by the same authors, these authors
will also be listed in the order in terms of the publication year.
You can also cite the source directly such as equating the
exact source from it or indirectly you can cite a source to show that you have
implemented the idea of the author, but you have not quoted them. Below the
examples are mentioned
Direct: “The effective
customer relationship helps in boosting the business of the organization”
(Maria, 2019).
Indirect: As stated by Maria (2019), the effective
relationship with the customer helps the organization in boosting their
business.
When the researcher is directly quoting from the source, the
page numbers must also be included in the reference. However, if you are
indirectly quoting it as it is mentioned above, then you do not need to add the
page numbers with in the reference. In case the page number is not available,
you can use the paragraph number.
